The hack is in the leak, and the sudden availability, of the video segment, across international borders, against the Weiss will (and apparently against the Ellison and Trump will), rebounding back to us in the US via the good graces of https://archive.org and via some true journalistic (or... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

For blog there is posthaven ( https://www.posthaven.com/pledge ) but IMO `.github.io` _is_ your best bet. Even the DNS will expire if no one pays right? But if you get your DNS from github, then you don't need that. The catch is that (a) you depend on Microsoft to _never_ sunset github, there's no such pledge and (b) you're limited in the amount of content you can store (e.g. Storing podcast data is not... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago

The Internet Archive, commonly referenced with its URL archive.org, has garnered a complex and multifaceted public opinion over the years. As a digital library, it is valued primarily for its role in preserving digital content, offering a treasure trove of historical data and multimedia that might otherwise have been lost. Here is a succinct analysis based on various contemporary sources and discussions.
The Internet Archive excels in providing a diverse array of media, including movies, music, audiobooks, and more. It is particularly appreciated for its collection of public domain films, offering an ad-free experience free of charge. This makes it a popular destination for those interested in vintage cinema, as highlighted in reviews pointing out its capability to deliver movies devoid of distribution rights hassles. Moreover, its extensive music repositoryโboasting over a million digital files and major artist tracksโcomplements its multimedia offerings comprehensively.
A stand-out feature of the Internet Archive is its Wayback Machine, widely lauded for archiving historical web content. It allows users to view website snapshots from yesteryears, proving invaluable in circumstances where content has been removed or altered. This capability bolsters the Internet Archiveโs reputation as a crucial tool for journalists, researchers, and anyone interested in exploring the digital past.
Overall, the Internet Archive is perceived as an essential resource for educational purposes. It hosts a vast catalog of books, papers, and educational resources, functioning as an open library accessible to the global population. This has fortified its role in cultural preservation, ensuring that knowledge and arts are democratized beyond institutional barriers. Enthusiasts and researchers alike leverage this aspect for work and information preservation that "should outlive" traditional media life cycles.
Despite its strengths, the Internet Archive faces certain criticisms and limitations. Being predominantly retrospective, it often lacks the latest releases in entertainment, which can be a drawback for users seeking contemporary media content. Moreover, technical hiccups like brief outages have been reported, impacting the availability of its services temporarily.
The Internet Archive has crafted a considerable cultural impact, drawing discussions on social platforms regarding its contributions to transparency and information availability. It remains a topic in dialogues exploring digital transformation and preservation, illustrating its widespread recognition. Furthermore, it supports creative projects and controversial topics, providing a platform where diverse content can be stored and accessed even amidst ongoing censorship activities on other platforms.
In conclusion, the Internet Archive stands as an indispensable digital library within the online landscape. It merges the preservation of digital culture with broad accessibility, proving invaluable for historical research, multimedia enjoyment, and educational purposes. Although it might not cater to those seeking the latest in pop culture, its contributions to digital archiving and historical preservation are virtually unmatched, sustaining its prestigious status among researchers, educators, and digital connoisseurs.
