There are low code database driven website creation systems out there at the moment e.g. OutSystems and Appian however they have very limited free trials (e.g. auto-disable after a few days of no use), and then the paid options are again too expensive. Although I will note that they seem to be great in terms of their usability and would be perfect for creating a simple interface without too much diving into code. Source: about 3 years ago
My concern however is - the working software isn't a generic language such as Java, C#/C++, Python etc. - it is with Appian (Business Process Management), which is a rather specific low-code platform for developing workflow and automation solutions. The role does have other elements potentially too such as getting hands on cloud and API dev etc. The pay for Appian Developers currently is GREAT due to high demand -... Source: over 3 years ago
Platforms like UiPath, Workato, and Appian provide ways to integrate apps and automate the processes that connect and flow between them. - Source: dev.to / over 4 years ago
Appian, a prominent player in the low-code development sphere, garners considerable attention within the software industry as a robust solution provider for Business Process Management (BPM), workflow automation, and project management. Across various articles and discussions, Appian has been praised for its unique strengths and capabilities, particularly in catering to industries with complex workflows like finance, insurance, and healthcare.
Appian is widely recognized for its powerful low-code platform, which is reported to enable app development at speeds up to 20 times faster than traditional hand-coding. This rapid development capability is a key differentiator, allowing businesses to innovate and respond to market demands with agility. The platform combines intelligent automation with low-code development, providing users with a comprehensive toolset for creating sophisticated enterprise-grade applications.
Appian is celebrated for its robust workflow management features, which help automate intricate business processes. It excels in integrating decision-making logic and case management, ensuring that complex operations are streamlined and efficient. This makes Appian particularly suitable for large enterprises where such capabilities are critical for operational success.
The platform is versatile, supporting a wide range of features, including mobile app development, chatbots, AI assistants, and custom workflow creation. This versatility is frequently highlighted in discussions, with Appian being used to automate routine tasks, integrate with enterprise tools, and empower users with its drag-and-draw process design.
While Appian offers extensive customization options, it employs in-product customization tools to enhance security and ensure JavaScript compliance across browsers and devices. This approach may be perceived as restrictive by developers accustomed to more open development environments, yet it underscores Appianโs commitment to security and reliability.
Discussions around Appian reveal some concerns about the cost and accessibility of its services. Limited free trials and relatively high purchasing costs may be prohibitive for small businesses or individual users, despite the platform's noted usability and effectiveness.
Appian holds a unique position in professional circles; while the demand for Appian developers is high and financially rewarding, there is a concern that specialization in Appian might pigeonhole developers due to the platform's specificity compared to more generic programming languages. Nonetheless, the platform offers exposure to cloud and API development, contributing to a well-rounded skill set.
Overall, Appian is esteemed for its role in transforming business process management through its low-code platform and workflow automation excellence. It efficiently addresses the needs of complex industries, making it a top choice for large enterprises. While certain cost limitations and customization constraints exist, the platformโs security measures, versatility, and rapid development capabilities are often highlighted as significant benefits. As the demand for low-code solutions continues to rise, Appian's prominence is likely to endure, bolstered by its ability to adapt and innovate in the evolving software landscape.
