Yes ! Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I do still think that SQL is a better interface to databases than excel formulas. I am building an open-source tool that allows quickly building web user interfaces on top of relational databases [1]. Among users are many people without a CS background, and without prior knowledge of SQL. And from the feedback I get, the pain point for getting started is very rarely learning SQL.
