Building your own LAMP stack on a VPS from scratch is a good learning exercise, but opens you up to various attacks. For example if you're running Wordpress, expect /wp-admin to be scanned and brute forced, and your whole site to be scraped by bots, not to mention bandwidth issues when your site gets hugged to death from Reddit/HN/Social Media. I'll add onto your list of recs with https://bearblog.dev/ in case someone else sees the comment and would like to find possible hosts for their own blog. Thank you for your comment. I take your word to heart, I've thought about throwing in the towel and letting someone else do the worrying about hosting but then again, I find it fun to play around with a personal page and if there's ever a need to scale outwards it would be incredibly easy (like if I ever end up wanting to host my own Nethack-server).
