    I felt hoodwinked when Google quietly began signing Gmail users into Chrome last fall. Google says the Chrome shift didnโ€™t cause anybodyโ€™s browsing history to be โ€œsyncedโ€ unless they specifically opted in โ€“ but I found mine was being sent Google, and donโ€™t recall ever asking for extra surveillance. (You can turn off the Gmail auto-login by searching โ€œGmailโ€ in Chrome settings and switching off โ€œAllow Chrome sign-in.โ€)
