Some management software has "ok" file management... Something like "hacknplan.com" .. it's my favorite. Source: over 1 year ago
A while back I was working with a small team and we tried out HacknPlan, and we were pretty impressed by it. I liked the integration with a design document, made it feel like it really was geared towards game devs. Our artist took to it quickly and everyone was able to fill out their own timelines with labels so we could get a nice overview of the scope of the project. I'll give you the resources you'll need for a team environment to include access to advanced Github resources, AWS services, and seats in team environment apps (SDL uses hacknplan.com). Source: over 2 years ago
Other suggestions *Add one task per day into your preferred program management app https://hacknplan.com/ I like this one If you want to continue after that task, can do so, but write at least one. *Join some game dev discords. Source: over 2 years ago
For kanban boards, I really enjoy using HackNPlan. I just pay for the basic features for it, but it's worked really well for me, and the creator is active on Reddit and is pretty quick on responses. Source: over 2 years ago
Also I forgot to mention the external tools that are not generally talked about but EXTREMELY helpful when developing things, like GitHub packs, management tools like hacknplan.com, and AWS services. Between all of the tools I'm probably spending around $50 usd a month. Source: almost 3 years ago
There is https://hacknplan.com/ which is made specifically for game development - it is a project management tool. I like it, it is nice and visual and all I need is in the free tier, but it definitely is not perfect. We stoped using it simply because we disliked how many clicks one needs to do to do simple tasks :D. Source: almost 3 years ago
HacknPlan looks interesting, but likely overkill for a solo dev. Source: over 3 years ago
In terms of "design documents" specifically this can vary from the classic idea of one supreme document that entails all of your design, to using only a Kanban board and refining ideas as they are being worked on. An interesting example of a slight variant that falls in between would be how it's done via HacknPlan, a project management site specifically for game dev. They have you create individual pages of... We switched from Github issues and Trello to https://hacknplan.com/ - I can only highly recommend it, it is free, it is made for game dev, it is very easy to use and organize stuff and it provides great visibility! Source: over 3 years ago
I personally love https://hacknplan.com it got everything I need and is not complicated like Jira or Asana. Source: over 3 years ago
I once tested Hacknplan which I thought was nice, but a little too much for me and my projects. Source: over 3 years ago
I've also messed around with HacknPlan before, I'd recommend trying that, the free plan was perfectly fine for me. I stopped using it as I found I was only using the Kanban boards and didn't see the need for the extra game design tools. Also my slow internet connection encouraged me to shift to locally hosted services. Source: over 3 years ago
