Lots of selfhosters run SearxNG & its documentation is really well established with a good API to interact with out of the box. I just love the results from a dozen or so different engines which makes it really easy to filter out the "SEO hackers" that have ruined search for almost every common keyword. DuckDuckGo is really good when it comes to privacy, but just as bad as google with showing information. Even though it doesn't tell you most of the top results on DuckDuckGo are ads, they paid to be the top results. It also tends to filter out non politically correct information. Google is notorious for manipulatively tailoring search results. If you want to search controversial subjects try out something like mojeek.com or presearch.org and you'll likely get dramatically different results. These also respect privacy. Source: about 1 year ago
