So I added the pdf for the player rulebook, monster manual, and command cheatsheet for the avrae discord bot found on dndbeyond.com as a tool to help run games through discord. Basically my idea was to create a DM or DM tool that could generate a story for you to play or generate the materials you would than use as a DM. Source: 5 months ago
Read? Most anything having to do with the class and race/species you want to play in addition to some of the basic rules. dndbeyond.com/how-to-play-dnd can potentially be a great resource so long as you are playing the 5th Edition of the game. It WILL seem like a daunting amount of information, but it is manageable if you limit what you learn to the necessities and learn the rest as you play. If you click on that... Source: 10 months ago
I have a lot of these in hard book formats, but since I want to run adventures using dndbeyond.com it is going to be a good time to pick the digital versions, plus I can share all these with members of my champaigns for free. Source: 10 months ago
There are countless videos on YouTube around how they play at the tabletop, but I think the best place to start would actually be dndbeyond.com. You will be locked to the basics, but you can get an idea from character building there because you can create characters and see how stats impact rolls and explore class features. If you haven't played before, all are welcome and we will help get you up to speed and as always, make sure everyone has a good time at the end of each sessions. You won't have to buy anything if you don't want to to start with. Here is a link to the basic rules you can look over to get a feel for the rules and what game play is like. You don't have to memorize everything as we will take it slow and will help... Source: 10 months ago
Use something like owlbear.rodeo. It's free, fairly easy to use, and works on most all devices (laptops, tablets, and mobile). Run the DM version on your laptop, and have one of the players cast the map to a TV. Other players can use their own devices to move their tokens. Source: 5 months ago
Hello there! I'm a DM looking to host a one-shot for a group of people on Thursday, around 8 est (Can be earlier or later, depends on the availability). It'll be hosted over Discord, and we'll be using owlbear.rodeo to play. Source: 9 months ago
The way it breaks down specifically for me goes something like this: - fillable PDF form? Google sheets or VTT character sheets - collaborative notebook? Google docs or VTT note applet - world map? No idea for a moveable world map, but I use WonderDraft for regional/global cartography, and I quite like it. I upload the maps I make to the VTT of my choice. - whiteboard for battlemaps? Most VTTs have a built in... Source: 10 months ago
Roll20 isn't terribly performance intensive, what seems to be the problem when you've tried? Maybe try not using dynamic lighting if you're using maps that support it. There are a few similar options like owlbear.rodeo that are newer and might use more efficient webcode but I don't think you're going to be able to do much better then unless the DM wants to share a webcamera with the zoom session and just move... Hello, I will be running session 0 for a upcoming short campaign this Thursday, and then we will meet every week after that at the same time for about 3 hours per session for about 5-7 weeks. We will be using discord for voice, and owlbear.rodeo for maps. Source: 11 months ago
