  • Noob question: How do you setup your local dev environment?
Check also devspace.sh and okteto.com. Source: 11 months ago
  • Local development set up for microservices with Kubernetes - Skaffold
There are dedicated tools just for that. Apart from skaffold check also tilt.dev, garden.io, devspace.sh, okteto.com. Source: 11 months ago
  • Approaches in Cloud Development Ergonomics
With Infrastructure as Code at its current state of maturity, it’s now easier than ever to replicate microservice environments in the cloud. This unlocked a new approach of having a personal production-like cloud environment for every developer, which they can use freely and in isolation. It comes in two flavors - persistent environments, or ephemeral environments created on demand with products like Okteto or... - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • free-for.dev
Okteto Cloud - Managed Kubernetes service designed for remote development. Free developer accounts come with 5 Kubernetes namespaces, 3Gi/pod with a maximum of 8Gi/namespace, 1CPU/pod with a maximum of 4CPUs/namespace and 5GB Disk space. The apps sleep after 24 hours of inactivity. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • Mutagen – Cloud-based development using your local tools
Hi Jacob. I am one of the founders of Okteto (https://okteto.com/), a remote development platform for Compose and Kubernetes applications. We use Syncthing to sync code between the developer laptop and pods running in Kubernetes. I would love to know your thoughts on the strengths and weak points of Mutagen vs Syncthing for this use case. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago

  • Developing and Deploying a Helm Chart Application in Okteto
I Using youngestdev @ cloud.okteto.com as context This command walks you through creating an okteto manifest. It only covers the most common items, and tries to guess sensible defaults. See https://okteto.com/docs/reference/manifest/ for the official documentation about the okteto manifest. Use the arrow keys to navigate: ↓ ↑ → ← Select the resource you want to develop: ▸ recipe-app-chart. - Source: dev.to / about 2 years ago
  • Microsoft no longer signs Windows drivers for Process Hacker
Yes, but unfortunately if you want to use something like Okteto[0] it requires the microsoft plugin. There are other third party plugins and tools tightly bound to the Microsoft ones making them unfortunately unusable. [0]https://okteto.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Ask HN: Whose using web based development environments?
    * https://okteto.com/ and I can't help but wonder whose using these? And what their experiences are like? Personally, I have a very difficult time seeing how these tools are not extremely frustrating for the developers using them. Still, I keep seeing them pop up and wonder if there's something I'm fundamentally missing? - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Free for dev - list of software (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.)
- Source: dev.to / almost 3 years ago
  • Skaffold + Argo DS Workflows?
Apart from Skaffold, you should also take a look at telepresence, okteto.com and tilt.dev. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Cluster best practices
Local development is an entirely different story on its own. There many tools just for this (tilt.dev, garden.io, telepresence.io, okteto.com). Source: almost 3 years ago
  • A Home Lab for trying Kubernetes
Maybe try a "Namespace as a Service". It's far from a full k8s experience, but might be a nice place to experiment with basic deployments/services/etc. Okteto has the best dev tier that I'm aware of - up to 10 pods, 5GB of memory, 3 namespaces. Enough room to do a bit of experimentation. If you are just wanting to learn Kubernetes from a developer side, this would be an excellent option. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Deploying An Existing Application Using Okteto Cloud
Get started with Okteto for free today to begin deploying your application in one click. - Source: dev.to / about 3 years ago
  • Using Telepresence 2 for Kubernetes debugging and local development
Telepresence is a project in the growing discipline of Developer Experience, in which we have other tools such as tilt.dev, garden.io, okteto and resources like dex.dev. It focuses specifically on helping developers work with containers and Kubernetes (as opposed to tools that focus on administration and management of clusters). - Source: dev.to / about 3 years ago
  • kubernetes, skaffold and sidecars how to accelerate
For the 10-20 seconds you only skip this by changing tools. Instead of skaffold you can use tilt.dev, garden.io and okteto.com that push source code straight into the cluster (and thus you don't need to push/pull images at all). Source: about 3 years ago
  • Migrating from Docker Compose to Skaffold
If you like Skaffold I suggest you also check the next-gen tools tilt.dev, garden.io, and okteto.com. Source: about 3 years ago
