  • How to make fancy road trip maps with R and OpenStreetMap
Really informative post on how to do this "by hand"! I use https://trips.furkot.com (which is free) for this kind of trip planning. It is fantastic to determine how much stuff you can fit in a day, taking into account when you want to start/end your day, driving time, stops for food, time at any road-side attractions, overnight stays, ticketed events (to ensure you arrive on time), etc. It's an... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Which of these routes is the best for a California road trip?
Route 3 makes the most sense. Keep mind some of the landmarks you listed for each city are far apart (ex, The Getty and the Getty Villa, Hearst Castle to PG). CA is huge and can be boring at some sections. I use this site https://trips.furkot.com to plan out my road trips. It'll give you an idea of how far the drive is and what accommodations/sites are near. Source: over 1 year ago

  • traveling to dallas
I use this to plan my drive https://trips.furkot.com/ you can enter what time you want to start and end you day. I stop about every 4 hours to stretch. I prefer to stop at the large truck stops along the way for bathroom breaks. I have snacks for the road such as trail mix, grapes and apples. I don't rush I like to stop along the way if there is anything of interest. The website I gave also has things to see... Source: over 1 year ago

  • Is Roadtrippers Plus - 30USD per year worth buying ?
Never used it, but sounds pretty expensive. I use furkot and it's only $14/year. One thing to note: The UX sucks on mobile, so best to plan your trip on a notebook or tablet. Source: about 2 years ago

  • I am a complete beginner planning a 3,000+ miles ride: what do I need to know?
Travel - Ive done a lot of camping as it made the routes interesting, using state parks and national forests. The facilities and costs are really predictable. Also - the people generally are really helpful to bikers - its not unusual to have someone bring you over beer and/or food. Ive used a couple apps to research/plan routes - https://trips.furkot.com/ , and for finding curvy roads https://kurviger.de/en. Im... Source: over 2 years ago
