  • Resigning from a role of being "the guy"
Sorry for the shameless plug but maybe my company https://cycle.io could help? Iโ€™ve seen so many people with this same problem and itโ€™s why I started building this platform. Happy to chat just DM me. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Monthly 'Shameless Self Promotion' thread - 2022/11
I'm a founder at Cycle, a full devops platform and alternative to Kubernetes, with a focus on simplicity without any sacrifice. It's fully multi/hybrid cloud (including on-prem) where you bring your own infrastructure. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • DevOps Starter Stack
You can use the free tier over at cycle.io as a deployment target - I actually just wrote (I work at Cycle) a blog post on basic Github Actions and Cycle. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Can I use docker container with gui?
It is possible - I've actually set this up to solve a very weird QA issue while testing some platform change during my work at cycle.io - heres a link to the DockerHub - I can tell you, you'll have to work at it a bit to get it to do what you want but its exactly what you're talking about. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Best way to manage containers on different servers
Im partial, given that I work for the company, but what you're looking for exactly is cycle.io - feel free to DM me if you have questions. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Questions from a newbie.
I actually talk about this all the time in my day to day as CS lead for [Cycle](https://cycle.io) . Heres how it goes:. Source: about 3 years ago
  • What should I know about Linux before learning about Docker?
In my time at cycle.io I've actually helped a lot of people understand containers at a deeper level and whoever you're taking the course from is smart to say this. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Question: Recommendation of running you own docker repo?
When I help people set this up on cycle.io I generally use the built in TLS termination functionality to achieve #1 & #2... #3 is always going to be an issue. You can mitigate parts of it but not avoid it completely. There used to be this neat ui container you could use to delete things, but the main thing to remember is NEVER push the same tags over the top of each other. The way that the registry links "blobs"... Source: about 3 years ago
  • Join us at the first Backblaze B2 Virtual User Group meeting!
At our inaugural meeting, on Wednesday August 17, Jake Warner, CEO and Founder of Cycle, will explain how Cycle's container orchestration platform allows their customers to backup stateful containers to Backblaze B2. Expect lots of chat about handling large files! Source: about 3 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Cycle.io

Overview of Cycle.io's Public Perception

Cycle.io, occupying a niche in cloud computing and DevOps tools, is often compared to major players like Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Docker Compose. The platform has gained attention for its distinctive focus on automation and workflow simplification, which is becoming an increasingly significant factor within the industry as organizations seek more efficient development processes.

Key Strengths

Automation and Integration: Cycle.io's emphasis on automation and streamlined workflows is consistently highlighted as one of its most significant advantages. The platform's seamless integration with popular CI/CD tools and version control systems distinguishes it from traditional offerings. This capability supports faster deployment and more efficient continuous integration processes, fundamental components for successful DevOps practices.

Flexibility and Control: As indicated in user forums and blog posts, Cycle.io offers flexibility in deployment across multi/hybrid cloud environments, including support for on-premises infrastructure. This adaptability is particularly appreciated by organizations seeking to manage infrastructure efficiently without sacrificing control over their environment. The ability to leverage existing infrastructure (BYOI - bring your own infrastructure) is a notable benefit that resonates well with companies pursuing cost-effective solutions.

User Engagement and Community: The active involvement of those within the Cycle.io community, including its own team members, demonstrates a strong commitment to user support and engagement. This is evidenced by frequent participation in discussions offering personalized assistance and clarifications on how Cycle.io can address specific challenges faced by developers and IT managers. The founder's direct interaction with the community helps present Cycle.io not just as a product vendor, but as a partner in problem-solving.

Areas for Improvement

Visibility and Awareness: Despite its strengths, Cycle.io still faces the challenge of gaining visibility in an industry dominated by well-established platforms like Kubernetes. While the public image is positive among those familiar with the product, broader recognition could be limited, influencing potential adoption by larger enterprises unfamiliar with its capabilities.

Complex Problem-Solving: In certain cases, the level of complexity required to solve specific issues using Cycle.io might demand more specialized knowledge than some other competitors. Though this implies a level of customization that can be beneficial, it can also act as a barrier to entry for teams with less specialized DevOps expertise or smaller IT departments.

Conclusion

Overall, Cycle.io has positioned itself as a viable alternative to traditional container management and orchestration tools by focusing on ease of use, automation, and robust integration capabilities. Its approach appeals particularly to organizations prioritizing streamlined operations and multi-environment deployments. While it continues to carve out its niche, increased market presence and enhanced visibility could propel Cycle.io further into the spotlight as a formidable competitor in the DevOps landscape. Increased awareness and educational outreach might assist in cementing its place among the more renowned platforms, enabling it to tap into a broader customer base.
