You can be self-taught for either too, you don't need a degree - just a good portfolio.   I started on TryHackMe!, then started zerotomastery.io hacking course setting up my first VM. I got two free courses on hackersacademy.com. I'm in networking limbo, because I'm fascinated by the internet protocol suite.
