  • I don't know which is worse
When you use the dictionary in English, as I tell to anyone learning English, the best dictionary is not a traditional dictionary, but is wiktionary.org, which itself includes the same definitions as the ones you've linked, but additionally contains "usage notes" that point out how rare and niche the archaic use of "America" to refer to a geographical continent is. It only comes up when you are talking about... Source: 11 months ago
  • What is the best translator for Russian?
For single words just use a dictionary. wiktionary.org works most of the time and usually is very informative. Source: 11 months ago
  • is there a website that shows detailed structure of the word like suffix, roots or case endings?
Wiktionary.org is very good if you can read Finnish well enough. I don't expect English wiktionary to have a lot of content. Source: 12 months ago
  • is the b silent in subtle? How do I pronounce it?
Two good resources to check for accurate pronunciation are wiktionary.org and forvo.com for a variety of voice recordings for words. Source: 12 months ago
  • Is my English understandable?
For words, it helps a lot to look them up on wiktionary.org or dictionary.com and read the IPA. For example, "complicated" is a word which stresses the 1st syllable, but you've put the stress on the 3rd. Generally, the stress stays on the same part of the word as the root word (COM-pli-cate), and adding -ed or -ing doesn't change it. e.g. MO-ti-vate, MO-tivating, MO-tivated. Source: almost 1 year ago

  • Lessons learned from messaging strangers on the internet
I was always looking words up on either SpanishDict or using Google Translate, DeepL and the apps' builtin translation tools. - Source: dev.to / 9 months ago
  • Looking For A Good Vocab Builder for Portuguese
I'm currently trying to learn some basic Portuguese and I'm having a hard time finding a nice consistent way to build my vocabulary. I already know quite a bit of Spanish (I'd consider myself a B1-B2ish speaker) and I have tutors I talk to every week of both languages. I mostly use SpanishDict.com for my vocabulary because I find it easy to find lists and examples, it's okay for testing pronunciation, and it's a... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Waterfox suddenly doesn't load any websites unless using IP or a VPN?
First it started with only spanishdict.com and then pretty much any HTTPS site. Source: about 1 year ago
  • ¿Pueden ustedes me ayudar con este problema? Creo que es como el francés, dónde buscamos una parabla quién comencar con un vocal, ella toma "el" y no "la". ¿Es de verdad?
You made a few. Also for translation services DeepL is better than google translate, and you should know the difference between using a dictionary and using a translation service. In this case, a dictionary is what you want since you're trying to find the meaning of a word and its gender. If you had used spanishdict.com it would've explained to you what was happening. • How do you create your own flashcards when immersing yourself in TL content?
For me, the method depends mainly from the resources I have. For Spanish I'm using spanishdict.com and it has a convienient way to create lists of words, so I just save a new word I see and then after some time I convert that into flashcards. For German I'm using collinsdictionary.com which I use as a normal dictionary, so usually I either create new cards while immersing myself or write them down to a file and... Source: about 1 year ago
