  • How Warp Works
The reason you don’t see a feature like blocks (with the exception of Upterm) in most other terminals is because the terminal has no concept of what program is running, or really of anything that’s happening within the shell. At a high level, a terminal reads and writes bytes from a pseudoterminal to interact with the shell. This technology is very antiquated--the shell essentially thinks it is interacting with a... - Source: dev.to / about 2 years ago
  • User Friendliness and Terminals
Suprised that no one has mentioned this, but upterm seems to be exactly what you're describing--a terminal emulator that shows a drop-down list of suggestions with explanations. Sadly, only a few commands are supported, and it's no longer being worked on. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Termy - A terminal with autocomplete
Currently haven't gone as far as making some kind of dedicated shell component though. I find it important that normal shells can work fine with in Extraterm. There was a project from a few years back which also mashed GUI/emulator together with the shell side, Upterm. SSH and containers tend to be the natural enemy of having your own shell though. • Giving up the iPad-only travel dream
I suppose the writer will have to wait a few more years before apple 'reinvents' the touch screen and convinces everyone they invented the touchscreen laptop. Notice how just about every other manufacture has a touch screen offering. The same was true for DVD writers back when apple called it the super drive. Many devices on the market came with DVD writers. The ipad pro as great as it is, will not replace a... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • Downsides if Emacs in a terminal with Tmux?
In my case, I use Windows Terminal which is a free and more feature complete terminal program for Windows. I find its support for various ANSI terminal attributes more complete than say something like putty. However, it does have an issue with incorrectly handling C-spc. Source: 10 months ago

  • Switching from Emacs. My experience
Either Wezterm OR Window-terminal I Personally use WindowTERM with alacritty * when needed Since WindowTerm has some weird ncurses issues ,. Source: 11 months ago
  • Windows 11 in Svelte
The impression I got from reading through some of the Windows Terminal[0] issues/release notes, is that It's understandable that it's much slower and more challenging to make changes to functionality that's become part of Windows core. If something in PowerToys turns out to be a bad idea, it can be removed. It's much harder to justify that when it's been baked into the OS. [0] - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
