For how to actively distribute the newsletters if you go the email route there’s several services (unless you’re cool with just whacking everyone’s email into a BCC list and sending manually, of course) you might find Tiny Letter useful. It’s 100% free and intended for exactly this sort of content and handles important things like unsubscribe functionality. That said is does seem to require a postal address that... Django-contact-form uses the akismet dependency, which in turn uses the Wordpress Akismet spam-detection service. See the AkismetContactForm class and its documentation to study its implementation.
