It's not as aesthetically customizable, but that is in the effort of trying to take a lot of the logistics out of map creation for you. Dungeon Scrawl and Dungeon Map Doodler are great for just a quick, gridded map. I also really like Map Forge as a Dungeondraft alternative. I don't see it discussed very much, but I think it is a nice alternative and there is a free version. Finally, the Deep Knight Map Editor is a really underrated tool that I think more people should talk about. Source: about 1 year ago

I've also had decent results with RPG Map (https://deepnight.net/tools/rpg-map/) for making some simple maps of rooms just so you can see where the tables are, how big the room is, etc. It exports your creations as a standard .jpg or .png image you can then load into whatever tabletop you prefer, eg. I used to dungeon painter online, then I bought dungeon painter studio because I liked the software. I still use DPS for my non-totm campaigns. Both are dead and not receiving updates now, though. Source: about 1 year ago

Best free option I've seen is Dungeon Painter Online (though flash is gone so have to download now). Dungeonscrawl is fantastically simple for sketching a quick dungeon. I've also used Inkarnate, Pymapper and some others I forget. The wiki has some recommendations. Source: almost 3 years ago

It's hard to beat Inkarnate for its raw capabilities in both world generation and map/dungeon design. And it has a free option. Obviously limited, but you get what you pay for in truth. Next for me would be the (potentially pricy, but very worth it) Caeora integrated into World Anvil. The complexity you can manifest is absolutely insane.
