We at Broadcom use "https://strong.network/" which gave lot of flexibiltiy and platform/resource control as well boost to productivity for our development community. At Niantic we use Strong Network: https://strong.network/ It's a swiss based company that provide a secure environment based on container. We like the many security features they offer, like proxying outgoing connections, organization wide controls, importing automatically source code ACLs and many possibilities for custom images. It's a server management service, they use AWS (or your host of choice) under the hood. I personally use something similar called Runcloud which I haven't had any problems with. It's a halfway house between a managed platform and your own VPS. Means you don't have to worry about security, vhosts, ssl certificates, restricting access etc... For PHP https://platform.sh has got a lot of traction, but it's notc cheap especially for small apps.
