  • Ask HN: What products other than Obsidian share the file over app philosophy?
NotePlan (https://noteplan.co) stores everything in Markdown files with a directory structure mirroring that created in the UI. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • Why I Like Obsidian
I tried obsidian but felt it had too many gears and knobs and spent too many times fiddling with them. I fell back on this app which is based on local markdown storage but takes it up a notch. https://noteplan.co The fact that everything is in plain text files on my computer is very important for me and future proofed. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

  • Ask HN: What do you use for note-taking or as knowledge base?
Noteplan [1] has stuck for at least 3 years now. I like that in addition to old-school notes pages, each day has its own page. • In a post about tech companies outsourcing jobs to foreign countries after mass U.S layoffs.
There's an anti-consumption group called Slavery Footprint where you can calculate approximately how many slaves you have based on a few questions about your consumption. I never looked into the methodology too deeply but I think it's a unique thought experiment on materialism that forces you to reflect on things a bit. Source: about 1 year ago
  • The Holocaust is not a defeater to theodicy
If it were that easy, we could end the child slavery which mines some of our cobalt, yes? Feel free to also visit slaveryfootprint.org. Or am I missing something? Source: about 1 year ago
  • Religious belief is pointless
How many slaves work for you? I believe that at the end, I will be taken to account for what I did with what I was given. (Lk 12:48) If I claimed to be righteous (and I try not to), I expect to see all of the evidence for and against that notion of righteousness to be put on display for all to see. Surely this is fair? The world desperately needs truly good persons; the amount of pain & suffering is immense, as... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Noma, Rated the World’s Best Restaurant, Is Closing Its Doors The Copenhagen chef René Redzepi says fine dining at the highest level, with its grueling hours and intense workplace culture, has hit a breaking point: “It’s unsustainable.”

  • Act On Your Values, Don't Just Preach Them - "A big part of living a happy and harmonious life is when your values and actions are aligned. If you only preach about your values, but never 'walk the talk,' you’re likely going to feel a deep disconnect in your life."
You missed the most important word in that sentence: indirectly. Most people agree slavery is wrong, yet most partake in the worst forms of slavery. Https://slaveryfootprint.org/. Source: over 1 year ago
