There's an anti-consumption group called Slavery Footprint where you can calculate approximately how many slaves you have based on a few questions about your consumption. I never looked into the methodology too deeply but I think it's a unique thought experiment on materialism that forces you to reflect on things a bit. Source: 11 months ago
If it were that easy, we could end the child slavery which mines some of our cobalt, yes? Feel free to also visit slaveryfootprint.org. Or am I missing something? Source: about 1 year ago
How many slaves work for you? I believe that at the end, I will be taken to account for what I did with what I was given. (Lk 12:48) If I claimed to be righteous (and I try not to), I expect to see all of the evidence for and against that notion of righteousness to be put on display for all to see. Surely this is fair? The world desperately needs truly good persons; the amount of pain & suffering is immense, as... Source: about 1 year ago

"almost zero choice". My brother in christ there are SO MANY ethical options on the market for just about every product. People just want to pretend they're not viable options because they often cost 30-50% of the slavery option. Like I said, if people bought 5 50$ shirts per year instead of fucking 60 10$ shirts, they could easily afford these ethical options. But they don't want to. And being a shitty consumer... Although you're not wrong, we (the younger generation) are not exactly helping either. People won't change. We all know the horrible human costs that it takes to make a cell phone or pair of shoes. Literal African... Source: over 1 year ago

53,000 Americans die every year from automobile pollutants, and over 4 million people die every year due to air pollution created in no small part by the products and services you rely on for your comforts. Not to mention your slavery footprint. Source: over 2 years ago
I mean, how do you overlook the fact that you yourself use a computer that was largely built thanks to slave labor? Or your phone, shoes, clothes, the batteries you use, etc, etc, etc? Have you ever looked into your slavery footprint? It's pretty sobering, but this is the reality in the culture in which your beliefs about right and wrong were shaped. So how do you address the cognitive dissonance? Maybe Marcus... Source: almost 3 years ago
