a lot of the recommendations here are time consuming. if you do control4 or something similar, it's not time consuming but the integrator that you hav to purchase from will more than likely not give you access to your system. you could do c4 with josh.ai on top of it. or just josh.ai on it's own but then you lose pool control but everything else you are asking for. you'll also have to play in their sandbox of... That is the Josh.ai system and I bet there aren't too many owners that are unhappy with that system. And there are still a lot of things that Alexa can do that josh.ai can't do. It's indeed suspicious. You're sending your voice samples, your various services accounts, your location and more private data to some proprietary black box in some public cloud. But I would recommend writing some proper glue logic in Python and use the socket function for communication. But if you really want to get rid of Alexa, it's probably worth it to set up mycroft.ai or another open source assistant. Source: 10 months ago
