  • Rabbit R1, Designed by Teenage Engineering
It's indeed suspicious. You're sending your voice samples, your various services accounts, your location and more private data to some proprietary black box in some public cloud. Sorry, but this is a privacy nightmare. It should be open source and self-hosted like Mycroft (https://mycroft.ai) or Leon (https://getleon.ai) to be trustworthy. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Mycroft
I was expecting this to be about Mycroft the AI assistant ( https://mycroft.ai/ ). - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • Coral TPU Dev Board for speech-to-text and nvidia agx as host running LLaMA??
But I would recommend writing some proper glue logic in Python and use the socket function for communication. But if you really want to get rid of Alexa, it's probably worth it to set up mycroft.ai or another open source assistant. Source: 10 months ago
  • Matter hasn't revolutionized the smart home yet, but AI may be about to change that - the TechRadar article claims most people don't have smart homes, just connected homes.
Https://mycroft.ai/ is a sophisticated open source replacement for Siri/Alexa … you can buy their premade hardware version for $399. Source: 10 months ago
  • Local AI -- A semi-reliable copy of human knowledge that can live in a box in your kitchen
To add home automation, consider something like Mycroft (https://mycroft.ai/). Source: 11 months ago
  • Is Voice AI safe?
Tldr either way it depends, but if it's free, your data is prob the real product. If you don't want to get data mined, check out https://mycroft.ai. Source: almost 1 year ago
  • app to figure out someone's accent
The reason for this is that the training data needed for this simply does not exist. To make such an app, you would need tons of phonetically transcribed recordings from tons of places in tons of languages to act as training data. We just don't have that, and even if we did, phonetic transcriptions miss a lot, like precise vowel height. As a case in point, even major voice assistants like Alexa are worse at... • Google is dropping support for dropcams
Mycroft is open source, and it works with Home Assistant. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Selfhosted AI
I haven't looked at it recently, but the Mycroft AI virtual assistant project is based on FOSS, self-contained software. I used to have it running on a spare laptop at home. It might be suitable for self-hosted AI experimentation. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Sundar Pichai: An important next step on our AI journey
The AI I'm interested in is of this sort https://mycroft.ai/ i.e. Where I run and control it locally. I don't want to go on any more "journeys" with Google. The last one start with me rooting for and trusting them (circa IPO.. 2004?) and ended with a dystopian nightmare spy apparatus and abuses like AMP. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Poor, innocent soul
There's also one called Mycroft, if that sweetens the deal for Heinlein fans: https://mycroft.ai/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • P.R.I.A | Privacy Respecting Intelligent Assistant
Haven't looked into it that much myself but I heard https://mycroft.ai/ at least has good privacy. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Open alternative to Google Assistant/Siri/Alexa?
Https://mycroft.ai/ is the one I use at home for mucking around. If you don't want the Raspberry Pi build your own route there is always the Mycroft Mark II. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Anyone making their own Alexa / Siri? I’m tempted.
It might be pretty easy to incorporate these new models coming out, like GPT-J, into the mycroft.ai interface which has already done most of the heavy lifting for managing a task like this. But there's really no chance of running those models on a raspberry pi unless you have the rpi 9k ultra deluxe version that comes out in 2300. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Experts warn people not to put Amazon Echo Alexa devices in their bedrooms
I haven't heard anything from them in a while, but that's exactly what the Mycroft project is trying to do. Not only is the software FOSS, but you can actually build them yourself with a Pi, a 3D printer, and a handful of off the shelf parts. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Experts warn people not to put Amazon Echo Alexa devices in their bedrooms
MyCroft? A friend has one, but I'm hoping to set it up via the Home Assistant integration. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Alexia alternatives
i'm planing a smart things system and I found this smart speaker called mycroft smart speaker(https://mycroft.ai/) but I can't find any info as to weather it functions with smart things the way Alexia does. Also the dot 4 and 5 have occupancy sensors and I'm not sure how to automate my lights without them? Also I see people saying you shouldn't rely on voice commands but I can't think of a better way to control... Source: over 1 year ago
  • How long before this becomes a "performance metric"?
For those that are a little bit more tech-savvy and concerned about privacy, you can set up something like Mycroft. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Alternative to Alexa that doesn’t talk
I've been following https://mycroft.ai/ for a little bit and I'm tempted to set one up to interested with my home automation. Source: over 1 year ago
  • The failure of Amazon's Alexa shows Microsoft was right to kill Cortana
Let's be honest, the Federation would surely be using an open-source voice assistant like Mycroft instead. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Voice Control was supposed to be the Future. Is Linux lagging behind?
I heard about Mycroft, I did not follow the project and I don't know what its current status is, as I find voice control useless for me. Source: over 1 year ago
