  I think a lot of people book hotels using credit card rewards. But another option is hoteltonight.com which is where many hotels sell their extra, unsold rooms. I believe you can book out several months in advance though, funny enough. Source: about 2 years ago

  If you can get to the Metro North station before the last train, do so. The metro north trains are fine. The worst problem you might have are some loud drunk people headed home after a night out.   I used Wanderlog which can suggest you popular locations in a city, if you pay for it you can optimize your itinerary for a day. It has some budgeting capabilities, but it won't suggest you accommodations, flights or transit from a city to another though. Source: over 1 year ago
