    It will be a while. As to watering, lift the container, if it is light, it needs water. I do that a lot! And I agree, I've done this over 35 years and watering at the start is a big pain.     I grow in containers, for many years. Peppers need 1/4 sand mixed in and don't fertilize till they are flowering. If they are growing one stem, pinch off the top to get them to branch at about 9". One Basil is good for 12" pot. Tomatoes, I grow in 1 - 15 inch pot minimum.
