There are great alternatives. I used Python and Qt to create my file manager [1]. It's a tool that needs to start quickly so Electron was not an option [2]. They made their own engine for the game which included https://coherent-labs.com/products/coherent-gameface/ that was incredibly new at the time and really poorly supported on the platform which broke Intel and Radeon graphics support (to this day). Source: over 2 years ago
