The next thing you want to look into is file integrity. Files can get corrupted & if you update your backup with a corrupted version of the file the backup isn't much help. If you're hoping to retain data for an extended period of time look into file hashing. We're commonly doing this with logging, using services such as Loggly or DataDog. We're using managed databases, be it on AWS, Heroku or database-vendor-specific solutions.
