• Care.com struggles

  Just like most online narrative reviews people would rarely have reason to come here and post "I love care.com I just found a nanny!" it's a pointless post, people only tend to post to complain or get help with an issue. Care.com is more popular than ever and in most markets it's far and away the most popular app outside of Facebook and its various groups. I like the site but can still acknowledge its gotten worse... • Asking for industry standards led to me quitting

  I'm glad you stood up for yourself, in this situation, but a word of caution that much like how the care.com calculator skews low, that one skews a bit high and can fluctuate. I just looked it up and for my area I am making what it suggests...for twins. I have the highest rate I know of (mind you, only after generous raises). • What to do when parents sell their house.

  Absolutely don't go into any home that's not government funded. If you have extra cash, pay it to hire someone through, e.g., care.com to visit your Dad in the home and provide extra assistance. Much cheaper to pay for some extra support in a publicly funded facility than to go into a 100% privately-funded one. Source: 6 months ago

• Short-term job

  I'm Canadian and I used workaway.info to plan my near-future 6-month trip to Japan. I think it's about $50 USD for an annual membership. Some of the Japanese hosts pay minimum wage in their region or slightly higher in exchange for the working opportunities they provide. You have to specifically find the postings labelled 'paid position' if you're interested in that though. Source: 11 months ago
