If it were me, I'd install Automagic (free now from automagic4android.com) and use the overlay feature available in the "Control UI" action, and see if those things are something that can perform functions. You might be able to figure out what app it's from by that. I use SoundSwitch for switching between mt Steeleseries and speakers. I really like my headphones but find it extremely annoying they can't have a normal aux out so could just use a cable splitter. It is the reason I will never buy another set. Source: 10 months ago

If that doesn't work look at your Sounds/Recording settings and make sure the mic is the default input device. Then (IIRC the nano also has audio passthrough) if you are 'monitoring' or using the sound card in your mic for output make sure it is the default Playback device.
