Personal advise (as per both old+new landmarks): Just do your research on your main, unsecured OS. The bluntly claim "it is an extension of your brain for thinking purposes.. No intention to publish". Then, if publishing of such not allowed in your region, just then encrypt it anyhow, store it online in encrypted form ("for backup purposes only") - I recommend cloud.mail.ru and adrive.com . My personal choice is SpiderOakONE, because, like rdiff-backup or Déjà Dup, it creates incremental backups. It uses zero-knowledge, which means that the data is encrypted before it even leaves my computer, so even the staff at SpiderOak are unable to view my data. Source: about 2 years ago

Online, offsite backups, using a zero-knowledge backup system. ("Zero-knowledge" means that the data is encrypted before leaving your computer, so it travels over the internet fully secure. As you are the only one with the decryption passphrase, not even the staff of the company can access your data.
