Edit: I'm remiss not to mention the value I've found in Every Noise At Once -- a pet data wrangling project of somebody who works at Spotify and gets to really dip his hands into the spaghetti of the database. Not only does he have some really fringe genres cataloged there, but you can also find things like top songs by country and city or even college, songs by city of origin, demographics, even an 'obscure fusion genre finder.'.
