    Are the third party apps actually that popular? Personally I use a web browser, desktop reddit.com on computer and tablet and old.reddit.com on phone and I suspect a lot of people are the same.

    Https://archive.org was pretty useful in this regard. This may be useful regardless if Reddit deteriorates or people delete their answers in the future. I did find that you really need to go to look for the old.reddit.com's version of the thread instead of the regular one because new reddit is useless and hides most comment behind a "show more" button whereas old.reddit.com renders most (but not all) of the comments out.
