Cookbooks for food adverse people?

I had a friend teach me how to cook, I mean I basically observed her doing it and became fascinated by it. Cookbooks came later. I can't remember the titles unfortunately. But I do remember using supercook.com allrecipes.com and food52.com a lot. Rachel Ray also tends to be pretty beginner friendly I think.
