Usually when new client arrives and asks for self-hosted corporate website I recommend something like Wordpress platform + visual page builder (no-code tool like Elementor). So company's marketer or assistant can easily update any content/section on the website by using the page builder's editor. This approach is very productive and fast.

Just letting you know, these are based on Wordpress: https://about.fb.com/news/, https://news.microsoft.com/, https://techcrunch.com/. But you're absolutely right - these are blogs and not corporate/marketing website. ;).

That's why I love Wagtail, a CMS built in django with a solid headless API. Whenever we need to extend the CMS, we're working in the same web framework and ORM we use for our backend, rather than having to deal with php spaghetti in Wordpress. You can even use wagtail's editor as a near-drop-in replacement for the stock django admin site.

  8. Cloud Cannon turns Dropbox/Git-project into a CMS you can setup in seconds
That's where CMS platforms like CloudCannon works really well with enterprise companies like Twitch, Netflix, Ocupop etc. You essentially build it on your preferred static site generators like next.js, svelt-kit, Hugo, Jekyll, eleventy etc and connect your git repo to the CMS and can be out the gates with live editing for the editors. This all falls under Jamstack and has a couple of advantages like: * much more secure * better developer experience * better speeds with very little effort * better at scaling * more intuitive editor experience * with the above CMS you'll get hosting with a cdn like cloudflare and ssl automatically Saying this you could with some effort get a headless wordpress going and get some of these advantages but I am not a fan.

The large custom sites I have been a part of building have used either StoryBlok and Statamic, each have the ability for their content editors to drag and drop components that have been custom created for them with a live ui site.

It's hard to predict the future. I aware that these days there are projects like openAI and we are living in early days of tools that are going to write code (Codex) based on humans description :) We are not there yet, but this is very interesting topic and approach.

Wired is an American-based magazine, published in online and print editions, that focuses on how emerging technologies affect culture, the economy and politics.
On the other hand, for someone like ExxonMobil which has a core focus not in the SaaS world, it really doesn't matter near as much what they're hosting on. There are large companies (for instance, Sony Music, wired.com, and similar) which do use Wordpress. They just tend to be less web-service-as-a-product than the examples you gave.
