I think if you're able to use Facebook for just the tools - Messenger, Events, Marketplace, small groups (for hobbies and not polarizing things), etc. Then it works pretty well. I haven't read my newsfeed in months and I exclusively use messenger.com for messaging.

This developer was also harassed by Facebook, with legal threats, etc. You can't even type in "fbpurity.com" in Messenger (try it) it's banned -- among other things they censor.
