I guess if you could convince your friends & family to use something like https://friendi.ca/ it could work for you. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
You might want to look into some of the Facebook-like open-source social networking programs like Friendica, Hubzilla, Libervia, or GNU Social. Source: over 2 years ago
I think that Friendi.ca is the fediverse equivalent of FB, in the same way that Mastodon is to twitter. https://friendi.ca. Source: almost 3 years ago
In addition to what has been said, you can also use Friendica, another great decentralized alternative (server list). It supports RSS, along with being a regular social network. Source: almost 3 years ago
Facebook being whatever it is would be friendi.ca. Source: almost 3 years ago
Given the similarity to FB, what's the advantage over Friendica or Hubzilla? Both support federation with other servers and can be run as a closed community too. Source: about 3 years ago
The Fediverse has many different types of platforms, including video hosting on Peertube or Friendica which is similar to Facebook. Mastodon got the most publicity, but it only uses a fraction of the possibilities that ActivityPub offers. Source: about 3 years ago
Friendica is powerful, but it's also very complex. If your primary goal for the server is simple discussions about your website, Friendica might be more than you need. Source: about 3 years ago
Are there any plans to set up some kind of presence in the decentralized fediverse (e.g. On Mastodon) or a community channel via the Matrix protocol? Services like Mastodon or Friendica are federated social networks licensed under FLOSS-licenses. Those "talk" to each other using open protocols like "ActivityPub" and/or "DFRN". Matrix provides similar functionality compared to Discord and is free (libre) and open... Source: about 3 years ago

Friendica servers (social networking and microblogging). - Source: dev.to / over 3 years ago
Mastodon is software for microblogging, like twitter. You may be more interested in Friendica (https://friendi.ca/), which aims to be more like facebook (i think). Not the same as facebook, just as mastodon isn't the same as twitter. They're trying to do things better with more privacy. Source: over 3 years ago
To be fair, its not Mastodon, its the #Fediverse. Mastodon is arguably the least rich platfrom on the 'verse. IMHO Friendica is where its at, and you can still communicate with all the twitter refugees on Mastodon, as well as meater content on services likeDiaspora*, not to mention full integration with Lemmy (which works fairly similar to Reddit) while Masto you can see lemmy posts and replies without having to... There's friendica which is decentralised but you had to host your own server or at least join some random server but if you don't mind setting up a server for it, you might like it. Source: over 3 years ago
Friendica (https://friendi.ca/) is Wordpress-level easy; it's got a similar stack. - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago
ActivityPub is a decentralized social network used by Mastodon, which resembles an older version of Twitter, as well as Pixelfed, which resembles older Instagram, Friendica, which resembles older Facebook, and others. Source: over 3 years ago
And they recommended Friendica as a replacement for Facebook : https://friendi.ca/. Source: almost 4 years ago
Mastodon might be the wrong thing for you here, as it's more akin to Twitter. For Instagram you're better off with Pixelfed, for Facebook it would be Friendica. The advantage is that all of these can still talk to each other. Source: almost 4 years ago
AFAIK Friendica is closer to Facebook in function, with different community groups and such. It's part of the Fediverse too so kinda compatible with Mastodon. I haven't tried it though. Someone recommend a server? Source: almost 4 years ago
After what happened, I think it's the time to craft our own little social media. Decentralized social media. I'm not talking about Facebook, Twitter or even Reddit. I'm talking about social media like Mastodon, Pleroma and Friendica. What we need is work together actually. Some of us co-op by give time to host and maintain the VPS or dedicated server, others maybe help by moderate it and others help by donations... Source: almost 4 years ago
How about https://friendi.ca/ then? - Source: Hacker News / almost 4 years ago
