Also, since you mention that you want to protect privacy, I would suggest that you swap out Disqus and Google Analytics for more privacy-friendly alternatives (again, this is up to you) e.g. You can use something like utteranc.es for comments (or, again, Ghost!) and for analytics you can find a plethora of options in this comment I made (some popular options are Fathom Analytics and Plausible Analytics).

I think it's a great idea that you're going the SSG route but one suggestion I'd make is to connect your content to a CMS. Since you're looking for newsletter functionality, I can highly recommend Ghost which now offers newsletter functionality built-in. If cost is an issue, you can host Ghost on Heroku free-tier, access its data "headlessly" and then generate your pages using the SSG of your choice. Using Ghost would single-handedly cover newsletter, comments and CMS functionality all-in-one! If you don't want to self-host, you could also look into something like Contentful. I don't have any particular experience with Google Groups as a newsletter but you could look into embedding Substack or use providers like Email Octopus and Sendinblue.
