Dell has advanced power management options in the BIOS, I set it to keep the battery charged at 70%, which is ideal for lithium batteries. And you set a custom schedule on days you need the battery charged at 100% so that you can take the laptop with you at full capacity. It's not rocket science, and definitely something anybody reading this site should be able to figure out for their make/model. For MAC there is... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
Https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/406957/can-i-tell-my-mac-to-charge-to-80-only Looks like there's a decent CLI tool for it, but being a Mac guy I'm of course going for the slick GUI app https://apphousekitchen.com. The developer came up with a really clever incentive for free-app users to upgrade to the Pro version: make the icons for the free version unbelievably ugly. (The design of the app itself is... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
"Special care" on OS X is to use Al Dente.app, which limits the charge at 80% so as to not damage the battery. https://apphousekitchen.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I use an app called AlDente that allows you to cap your battery's charge https://apphousekitchen.com/. Source: about 1 year ago
Download AlDente and your battery will thank you. If you have it plugged in most of the time limit the charge to 80% and AlDente will stop charging beyond that. Source: about 1 year ago
Just a shame keeping the battery at 100% will degrade its health over time. I would love an option to keep it at 50% most of the time, just like my MacBook with AlDente. Source: about 1 year ago
I use the paid version of an app called Al Dente to set the battery charging level to a specific limit. The app has a free mode. It has more features than what I stated, and works on Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs (limited only by what the underlying hardware allows). It's not possible to set a hard limit in macOS without third party utility like AlDente [1]. I was referring to the built-in "Optimised battery charging" feature. When this is active and has decided it will cap charging at 80%, you get a "charge to full now" option in the battery menu. [1] https://apphousekitchen.com. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I was told to get this app to help maximize battery life as it keep it within 30-80% charge instead of 100%. Would this app help prolong the battery life? Source: about 1 year ago
Related: for MacOS, AlDente allows you to set a battery charge limit. https://apphousekitchen.com/ I've been using it successfully for around a year. It works pretty well sans a couple quirks due to hardware limitations e.g. If you plug in with the screen closed (sleep mode) it will charge fully to 100%. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I use my MacBook Pro nearly only in clamshell mode. No problems so far but I had the battery concern at the beginning. So I found a program which sets a charge limit for the battery and also lets the battery uncharge a little bit at some times to preserve battery health. It's called Aldente https://apphousekitchen.com Maybe it's something for you too. I like it very much. Source: over 1 year ago
>Neither, for reasons unclear to me, allow the owner to make that decision. On Macs you can get something called AlDente which I use. Works quite well, free version https://apphousekitchen.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Theres an AlDente app that does this https://apphousekitchen.com. Source: over 1 year ago
AlDente - Charge Limiter, https://apphousekitchen.com/ this app let the mac to discharge after a certain percentage. Good app. Source: over 1 year ago
It works fine but I would recommend something like aldente. Especially when the MacBook is plugged in most of the time it really helps longevity. Other then that if the lid is closed or not doesn’t really change that much. Macbooks are designed to properly work with their lids closed. And the logo won’t glow when the lid is closed as the screen is off. Source: over 1 year ago
My MBP 16 11.2021 - 96.8% mostly connected, but after killing 2 batteries in my 2013 MBPr 15 I use this app https://apphousekitchen.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
> This is interesting, am I correct in thinking this a feature implemented by Apple and now supported by the Asahi team? Does that mean that macOS supports this charge control feature? It does, but in a weird way. You can turn on "adaptive charging" and it will randomly decide to charge to 80%. If you want to properly control it, just install the wonderful AlDente utility ( https://apphousekitchen.com/ ). Then you... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
I think my battery is in good state. 84% capacity, 280 cycles, mostly used plugged in with Al Dente set to 80%. Source: over 1 year ago
I do not like that a lot of background apps I run (some of which, because of the shortcomings of the OS; like Rectangle, Al Dente and BlueSnooze) show up in the menu bar. Source: over 1 year ago
You can try an app called Al Dente It keeps the battery at a 80 % and moves between a value you can set…ex from 70% to 90% during the day, plus you can schedule a circle of discharge and top up where it goes automatically down to 20%, back to 100% for 1h then again to 80%. Plus it has other neat features as it’s not allowing to charge when the battery is too warm and other minor things. Source: over 1 year ago
Just keep your macbook plugged in. Going through cycles degrades batteries more than staying at a certain percentage. If you’re worried about overcharging, give AlDente a try. Source: over 1 year ago
