  • Coming from a C/systems development world, what would be a good way to use JS in a simpler, less complex way?
I'd suggest reading up on "vanilla JS." Note, the http://vanilla-js.com/ site is actually a joke, but not the worst place to look. Basically, with just JS you can do all the things. If you want to do something clever, you might find yourself writing some reusable libraries, which would be familiar to any fan of C. Source: 11 months ago

  • Programming types and mindsets
I still just document everything using YARD and focus on designing really obvious Object Models and of course write tests. I have tried using sord to convert my YARD type annotations to RBS or RBI, but you still have to fill in missing bits, then use steep and somehow load in RBS/RBI files for other gems and stdlib, and it's just an uphill battle since Ruby is dynamically typed by default. Obviously Dynamic Typing... Source: 12 months ago

  • Struggles of coding an incremental game (kind of tutorial)
React is much slower than vanilla js - probably half as fast or worse. It has lots of advantages over vanilla js, but speed is not one of them. There are ways to achieve a speedup over naive vanilla js, but you need to be doing the specific things that React was built for - and game design is not typically included in that. • An Introduction for TypeScript
Any software that works with JavaScript can work with TypeScript. It’s that simple. A compiler (IDEs or editors supporting TypeScript come with compilers) converts the code into Vanilla JS. The TypeScript conversion process is done by adding a configuration file named tsconfig.json to the correct root directory of a part of the codebase or the entire app. - Source: dev.to / about 1 year ago

  • Ask HN: What is your preferred light weight stack for personal projects?
Front-end: VanillaJS[1], Elm Server: Deno, Rust Database: Postgres Hosting: Cloudflare Pages, fly.io --- I generally keep my server code _extremely_ light-weight. I shove most of the complexity of my systems into the database queries, where it's easy to optimize. I also find it useful to organize my API into "one POST for each button" and "one GET for each table". --- [1]: http://vanilla-js.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
