  Definitely the other way around. Listening to smooth jazz in coffee shops lead me to chillout and downtempo, and when my daughter was born I didn't have as much time to DJ in bars so I filled the gap by hanging out in chillout rooms on turntable.fm, where vaporwave began to spread.   A great place to find more music like this is the Chillout Mixer on turntable.fm. It's a chat room with virtual DJs that pull music from soundcloud and youtube to share b2b with the room. There are some guys there that are really into this genre. Source: about 1 year ago

  Https://turntable.fm is a lot of fun but not your traditional style of mixing, basically 1-5 DJs rotate picking 1 YouTube or SoundCloud track each.   Do you feel there may be cultural appropriation of Asian people in general as well? I honestly felt that with so much use of Japanese characters that many vaporwave artists were Asian, though I realize now I was wrong. Vaporwave has evolved quite a bit since the turntable.fm days. • Looking for an fingerpicking guitar song similar to the linked.

  The riff that starts at 11secs reminds me of a guitar plucking type song that was popular in; I wanna say 2010/2011. That was the time I was "DJ'ing" on Turntable.fm, the golden age. • How did you stumble upon IDM/What caught your ear

  There was/is a website called Turntable.fm. Under the chill room is where I first heard the first IDM song that I can remember. Fear Of Corners by Dntel. I loved it So much so that I started developing a moniker under the title of the song that I first heard.   If you don't know, turntable.fm is basically the same thing, you make a playlist of youtube videos, have avatars, can chat, have chat bots, what not. I prefer this type of deal over discord rooms. I'm resurrecting the old Digital Arcade room. Feel free to drop in and listen to some sweet video game music, play some of your own and hang out. I'd love to see it popular again. • What is your story about the time you met up with online friend/s?

  Any of you remember turntable.fm? Was a really good site back in its hey-day... Now its a mess... But anyway, had a really strong community of music-lover friends and musicians there.
