  • I'm proud of my confirmation bias! Who's with me?!
Yeah that is my beef with Google. I get WebMD might have a bit more info than howayahuascahealseverything.com , but smaller sites had more niche information. For me torrents, Yandex, and https://theoldnet.com/ are how I jam. If I need something simple I am not going to cry, but I find those sources much more unique (not so say that all are reliable, but it is surprisingly hard to find hobo websites now, but not on... • Things to do on WINDOWS XP VM?
Don't log into any accounts but apart from that you should be safe within your VM. As to what to do you could play old games, look at old websites through theoldnet.com, listen to old songs through win amp and stare at the visualizations(bonus points if you're high). Source: 12 months ago
  • Feeling bored of the internet, nostalgic, or want alternatives to Google? Here's a list of search engines!
Lastly, if you're here because you miss the old/small web, try using Marginalia Search, Wiby, High Browse, or explore new frontiers through Gemini. There's also TheOldNet and Old'aVista, ProtoWeb, and Neocities. Source: 12 months ago
  • Dreamcast browser shows pics as Checkmarks
Are they loading over HTTPS? I think the dreamcast browser is too old to really support proper secure protocols these days. You can try loading it through http://theoldnet.com/ and see what it makes of it. Source: about 1 year ago

  • What if we re-build a 2000's Internet?
Oh and if you get XP to the internet, unfortunately you can only use HTTP sites with vintage browsers, so you will need The Old Net to use the Internet Archive. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I just got windows 98 on the internet. let's gooo
Also, I’m sure you already knew, but in case you didn’t, there’s a fun site designed with legacy hardware in mine called “The Old Net”. Basically, what the Old Net does is take web site captures loaded from the Wayback Machine, and renders them especially for machines of the same era the site captures came from. For example, if you want to see how Yahoo.com looked in the year 2000, plug it in to the search bars,... Source: over 1 year ago

  • What can I use the internet for? Most websites don't work (I'm surprised it even works at all)
Try FrogFind. There's also The Old Net (try lite if it's too slow), which is optimized for Internet Archive and Wikipedia usage and has a FrogFind option. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What browser will run on win98se?
I don’t have Internet capabilities on my 98SE machine yet, however I definitely plan to see how Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.20, Internet Explorer 6 with SP1, Opera 9.64, and RetroZilla 2.2 will fare on modern websites, mobile site versions, and even legacy archives. TheOldNet also sounds like a fun way to step back into the Internet of yester-years gone by! Source: over 1 year ago
  • 14 obscure old websites from the past - vista simulator, the old internet, 30k flash games, watch old tv shows
Http://theoldnet.com - Welcome to the old internet. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What is the most sustainable operating system?
A lot of software built for DOS was built against a stable ABI and DOS is mostly a glorified bootloader, so software runs on the bare metal. However modern web browsing is way more complicated and needs CSS, Javascript and encryption to function and there are proxy services that convert the modern web to something that plays nice with modern machines like The Old Net and FrogFind, you're not going to be watching... Loaded up Myspace via theoldnet on my iBook G4 12' late 05' . Fun site for vintage computing because it's simply just the wayback machine for actual old machines. Source: over 1 year ago
