Great service. I particularly like that you can connect to their network without redirecting all traffic and only selectively use different SOCKS5[1] endpoints[2] for different browser profiles. Ad-blocking adblock.dns.mullvad.net DNS[2] is quite nice for the mobile as well. [1] https://mullvad.net/en/help/socks5-proxy [2] every server has its socks proxy address listed https://mullvad.net/en/servers [3]... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
I am no tech bro, I am just an old retired bloke who enjoys using tech exactly how I want it to be. I HAVE NO ADS ON MY PHONE. How is this, that an old non techy can manage this seemingly difficult task. First, I change. The DNS settings on my Pixel 4A and my families and friends phones. Mullvad provides this as a free service for anyone not using their VPN. I use the family filter on our phones: There are others.... - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
Either ublock origin with all filter lists checked Ghostery with ad-blocking, anti-tracking and Never Consent enabled with Fanboy's Annoyance List added to custom filters Mullvad DNS https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MaraDNS https://maradns.samiam.org/ https://github.com/samboy/MaraDNS which doesn't do the shit you fear in the first place, thereby maybe widening the timeframe before SHTF is hitting you. Or at least something from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_recursive_name_server I'd recommend Mullvad, using it ATM because it's working excellently for me, without adding any... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
If you're looking for something similar but at DNS level, you can use Mullvad's public DNS servers: https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
Another great (and free!) option is Mullvad’s ad-blocking DNS over TLS or HTTPS. https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
FF enables this and they aren't not ignoring the ISPs. Settings > Privacy and Security > DNS over HTTPS There is a reason to do this btw. The name should say it all. It'll default to cloudflare but they let you specify what you want. The utility? Let's say I'm not an advanced user, what's my DNS look like? Is it DoH? We both know the answer. So defaulting so users' traffic is default DoH sounds like a security... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I'm so tired of reading this over and over again. Do you need/use cloudflare for anything else besides their DNS? If not you can simply switch to https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
Changing that setting to use https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls would have helped also. Without degrading anything else. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago

You can have one or the other active at the same time. If you have the DNS profile turned on and then proceed to turn on Little Snitch/Lulu, the DNS profile will get turned off by macOS and whatever other DNS configuration you have will take precedence. It's mentioned in passing by Mullvad in the docs [0]: > If you have more than one profile added then macOS seems to use only the last one that you installed. If... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Why not using this instead? Too slow? https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls/ Besides not being censored at all, thereby enabling to visit sites which are blocked at DNS-level in some locations, there are several options for adblocking at DNS-level, too. Often eliminating the need for a Proxy or VPN to get access, with optional Adblock as a service. For free. It's nice. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
There's also Mullvad's adblocking DNS service, which contrary to their VPN product is free for anyone to use: adblock.dns.mullvad.net They have more variations like social media block and instructions for using it at https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
My ISP blocks it since long, but I use https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls which fixes it. Sucks for all users who don't know how to change their DoH provider though. Would live to have an explanation. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
I can't access the internet when I set a custom dns provider in DNS Proxy settings. I followed the instructions on this link: https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls/. However, the app firewall failed and couldn't get internet. I set the IP address as "193.19.108.2" and used port 853, as described in the article. I also tried to use DNS over HTTPS using the url...
