The smartest way to debug cloud native applications.

I can debug my code on my machine while it's accessing resources on my k8s cluster.

  • The Traffic Police 🚨 - Controlling outgoing traffic with mirrord
So, you've been using mirrord to simplify your development process (if you haven’t, go here!). Naturally, you want the traffic from the app you're debugging to go through the cluster environment, so your app can communicate with its clustery pals. There is a problem though: your latest change adds some new columns to the database, and you don’t want to modify the database in the cluster and affect everyone else... - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago

  • mirrord as an alternative to Telepresence
We're building an open-source tool called mirrord which lets you run a local process in the context of a pod in your cloud environment. We often get asked how mirrord is different from Telepresence and so we decided to write a short blog post about it, which we hope would be valuable to those interested in local Kubernetes development:. • What steps do you usually take to troubleshoot Kubernetes pods?
If you want to troubleshoot your app specificially or any network traffic, I'd recommend Https://mirrord.dev/ Just do, mirrord exec -t pod/target-pod -- ./path/to/process and run it in the context of your pod. Source: 11 months ago
  • The mirrord IntelliJ plugin now also supports node.js!
Turns out supporting node.js in IntelliJ plugins is not as easy as you would expect (mostly because the extension point we are extending is not documented. With documentation this could have been simple), but we did it! I'm the JetBrains fan of the team, so I'm happy we're extending our support for IntelliJ. You can now run and debug node.js applications with the mirrord IntelliJ plugin. Mirrord let's you run... Source: about 1 year ago
  • mirrord on IntelliJ now supports node.js!
You can read about mirrord on our website or on GitHub, since it's open source. Source: about 1 year ago
  • In a gitops world, what does your team do to reduce cycle time for devs?
We use https://github.com/metalbear-co/mirrord to run changes in the context of the cloud environment without actually deploying thus eliminating most of the testing/debugging time. Source: about 1 year ago

  • Local Development with hot reloading, what does your team do?
I'm biased but we develop https://github.com/metalbear-co/mirrord so you can just run the process locally in the context of the remote cluster - be it a locally kind cluster or a cloud provided one. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Are you using docker compose / minikube for local development?
Mirrord (https://github.com/metalbear-co/mirrord) by MetalBear is an interesting project trying to run local applications in the context of a remote cluster which I've used recently and enjoyed (building an operator, there's not too many ways around working on a real cluster). mirrord as an alternative to Telepresence
mirrord then injects itself into your process, overrides low-level functions and relays them to the mirrord agent, who then executes them on the target in the cluster and sends back the results. For example, when your process tries to read a file, mirrord intercepts that function call and instead asks the agent to read that file from the remote target. mirrord does this for everything - traffic, file operations,...

mirrord is an open-source tool that lets developers run local processes in the context of their cloud environment. It makes it incredibly easy to test your code on a cloud environment (e.g. staging) without actually going through the hassle of Dockerization, CI, or deployment, and without disrupting the environment by deploying untested code. Instead of saving it for the last step, now you can shift-left on cloud testing you can test your code in the cloud from the very beginning of your development process.
