  I was about 10 when I first discovered Vfx. I started out with a program called Hitfilm. Hitfilm has a free version plus a wide variety of youtube tutorials. It thought me the basics of 2D VFX. It is more beginner friendly than almost any other VFX software out there and all the official tutorials come with free project files and footage so that you can follow along.   Save your University (.edu) email address! You can find lots of discounts with a valid Uni email address, like Adobe Apps including Premiere Pro ($239/annual) which is a wonderful app for video editing if you plan to create things like intros and outros, or simple video editing for YouTube (if you plan on going that route).   Hey yeah no worries. So for software, the first thing I'd recommend is downloading the free editing platform HitFilm. It's a really good free piece of software that is really powerful for what it does, and is complex enough for you to deep dive into it as much as you want.   After those, I would suggest Hitfilm express. Much like Davinci Resolve, its a "freemium" software package. I used it for a while but dropped it after my 3rd or 4th corrupted save file that forced me to have to completely re-edit a few projects. But overall, its a solid piece of software.   I always recommend Hitfilm Express. It's what I've used for 4 years now and it works great! I wouldn't say it's "super simple", but I do think that it shouldn't be hard to figure out what you need to do once you use it for a little while.
