  • Do people miss informal chats with coworkers when wfh?
I'm really digging gather.town for this. Our team has it set up & the ad-hoc "meetings" have gone up tremendously. You can choose to engage or not but it seems to be way more informal than slack for a quick sync, which is a gigantic strength imo. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Do you agree ? I don't but this company also asked new joiners if they'd join at half of what they were offered. I don't know if they are feeling the heat or are we wrong about remote being best model for IT jobs.

  • 2D World as Lobby
So: What about a 2D World as Lobby? Thinking of the https://gather.town resp. https://workadventu.re/ experience, possibly within the game engine. I.e. You have one avatar moving around a map, you are in a voice call with others within hearing distance. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Interactive podcasts with showing off NFTs
Hello, I really like gather.town and I made my own version - www.pfpchat.com - an interactive podcasts where you can show off your NFTs. I'm the only guy on the team and I'm hardcoding 24/7. It will be really good if you host a space/podcast in pfpchat. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Text/Video chat for Remote Workers

  • Not sure if this is the right place to put it, but are there any programs that just let you build a game without having to use script or nodes or anything?
The closest thing I've found to what I want is gather.town's mapmaker feature. I don't have to assign the character as a character, I plop something down and select from a dropdown of options what it does. Only issue is it's just a mapmaker for an existing program, and it's rather limited in the sense the only 'npc' things I can put down are custom-asset note objects that don't move and only say one thing. Is... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • So you want to run a virtual event
Online spatial chat platforms like Gather Town or Skittish can be nice, but require a lot of customization (I'll talk more about them later!). A lot of event organizers I've spoken with lately are interested in repurposing existing online spaces — like, say, finding a free MMO or online game that can serve as a social space — which I think is a really interesting path to explore, even if I haven't seen concrete... - Source: dev.to / about 2 years ago
  • [D] Is virtual ICLR 2022 worth paying for
We usually used gather.town platform, which has online video presentation capability. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Opinion on my depiction of dissonance for an audience?
I decided to deliver my presentation through gather.town which is like an 8 bit, 1980s game environment virtual space. The map I created is very light, and there is a lot of games involved for audience interaction. At the end of the delivery, I reveal my intention behind the decision to use the virtual platform: an attempt at emulating the dissonance in the staging of Tell to a much smaller degree by contrasting... • Show HN: I made my personal website a minigame using Phaser 3
We are secretly building this at http://gather.town/ and planning to open the tech up as an SDK for others to build on. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • I feel like I'm losing my mind.. who else here has software they are required to use that make teaching even worse?
I 100% feel this on an ethereal level. My school recently went from Google Classroom to Infinite Campus. It may just be me, but I cannot adjust to the number of clicks I need to make to do the same stuff I was doing before. Maybe I'm just used to GC... For some positives, I really have found a couple I like that seem to be pretty popular. For videos I've been liking EdPuzzle. Not the most engaging but better... Source: about 2 years ago
