I am using Duolingo as a practice drill for a language that I had taken in high school and college. I have done a lot of courses, both analog, using old media, and online. I can tell you that, in the modern age, there is no reason to pay for lessons. There are ample free courses you can use. I'm not sure there's 1 single best place to learn Cantonese unfortunately, so you may have to use lots of different resources and piece together your own route. It can lead to a lot of military based vocabulary depending on the language you're going for. For example I was getting a lot of military titles, and vocabulary based around weapons and army vehicles.
