I’m of French decent, and want to learn French.

FSI Language Courses Anki
  1. Public domain versions of language courses from the Foreign Service Institute.
I have done a lot of courses, both analog, using old media, and online. I can tell you that, in the modern age, there is no reason to pay for lessons. There are ample free courses you can use. Open Culture has an aggregate of free French courses. A lot of these courses can be found at the Yojik Website. I did the FSI course in German, which is how they train diplomats quickly. It's great, but you need to nail your arse to the seat and do it. I did it over a summer. I am a huge fan of Cortina. I have used that in French, Italian and German. I love it because of its comprehensive grammar section. French in Action is a great video resource, taught all in French. I have also used this. (For French, French in Action and Cortina is all you need. You can do a chapter from the book a week, twice over a year; and you can watch one episode of French in Action repeatedly for a week before going to the next one and you'll nail French in a year.).

Anki is a program which makes remembering things easy. Because it's a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn.

I think Duolingo is great for seeing how you are progressing in areas. Anki is a flashcard program which can help you memorise words or phrases.
