  • Dark Mode Sucks
Install Darkreader, enable Light mode https://darkreader.org/ I think most users are capable of that :). - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Dark Mode Sucks
Yes. There's a reason that https://darkreader.org/ has 10 million+ installs while no inverse extensions even exist to my knowledge. The entire web is already light-mode first and much of it, including your site (no offense) offers zero built-in support for the provably massive demand that exists for dark-mode color schemes. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Dark Mode Sucks
Yes. I have Dark Reader[1] on by default for all websites and only disable it when it activly breaks a site, or a site has a suitibly dark theme and Dark Reader thus flips things the wrong way. If a site is borked to the point that Dark Reader can't fix it, I'll use reader mode or just go somewhere else. Your site looks just fine to me. [1] https://darkreader.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Dark Mode Sucks
This is the privileged majority punching down at minority, not unlike an abled person whining about the existence of accessibility options, or a native-born American complaining about government forms also having a Spanish section after the English section. There's a reason that extensions like Dark Modeยน have 10,000,000+ installs while no "Light Mode" extensions can even exist as far as I can tell: more or less... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Ask HN: Dark Mode for HN is overdue
Use https://darkreader.org/ Automagic dark mode on every site. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • You can customize HN to be darkmode friendly
I was doing similar for a while but too many sites needed changes so I ended up installing and toggle Dark Reader where required. https://darkreader.org. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • Claim for a Missing Tooth
I suppose theyโ€™re using https://darkreader.org/ or something like that! If you implement dark mode yourself, you can add `` to prevent Dark Reader from triggering. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Please Don't Force Dark Mode on Users
Instead of writing this shitty article, just do like those of us who can't take light mode, and install Dark Reader (that also does light mode). https://darkreader.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: Will HN ever have a dark mode?
I prefer sites not to implement a custom dark mode and instead to make sure their styles invert well, less work for devs, more consistency for me. https://darkreader.org/ https://www.howtogeek.com/446198/how-to-force-dark-mode-on-every-website-in-google-chrome/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: Why did you decide to make the background a bright white color?
DarkReader will save your eyes, I'm not fond of extensions, but this one is worth it: https://darkreader.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Control iPhone with the movement of your eyes Support (SG)
DarkReader works pretty well for my needs. It has an iOS Safari Extension. [1] https://darkreader.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

  • View Wikipedia in Dark Mode with?withgadget=dark-mode
If you look at the description in TFA, it sounds like this isn't a proper stylesheet, it's a heavy Invert Colors implemented specifically for Wikipedia. If we're going to be indiscriminately inverting colors and trying to piece the page back together anyway, I strongly recommend using Dark Reader [0] instead and getting the benefits of this globally. It's open source and very good. I installed it when I... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago

Do yourself a favor and get Dark Reader[1] - [1]: https://darkreader.org. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • Ask HN: Why is there no dark theme for Hacker News?
I couldn't live without the Dark Reader [1] plugin. Every website is now dark. Once in a great while it does something weird, but that's on specific websites with weird stuff going on. It makes Hacker News look great. It's available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Edge. - [1]: https://darkreader.org/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • Ask HN: Does anyone know the idiot decided gray txt on white bg was a good ideea
I totally forgot about the atrocious default HN theme. Yeah that's unreasonable, unreadable. A low-contrast light theme is literally equivalent to shining a flashlight in your eyes. Only unreasonable people do that to others (e.g. The police). If you use Firefox, I recommend the Dark Reader[1] extension for taking care of all the websites that insist on destroying your eyes.
