  • Struggles Years after TBI
The one thing that I've heard and read and been told a bunch of times is not to compare yourself now to who you were before your injury, and while there is merit to that, it's obviously really hard not to do sometimes. The thing that I try to keep in mind is that - injury or no injury - I would be different now than I was then anyway. that's just how life goes. Meditation has really helped me in this area... To... • Why does Sam describe himself as a "Neuroscientist" and a "Philosopher" on his website?
Am I missing something? I can’t find mention of “philosopher” on samharris.org or wakingup.com. I see a mention of neuroscientist, but I think a PhD degree should allow you to call yourself that. As for credibility in both areas, check citations to his works - books (philosophy) as well as scientific papers (neuroscience). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Need Help
It's cliche, but try to take it one day at a time, one step at a time. meditation has helped me out a lot over the years... If you want to at least give it a shot, you can do a free 30-day trial at wakingup.com. I've made it part of my morning routine and, though it's not a cure-all, it really can get you in the right headspace to start your day with a little less stress. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What is mindfulness/meditation in a nutshell, what is it, what do you do?

  • anyone else refresh r/new on this sub 50 times a day everyday for the past 5+ years
Some music genres can help during study. For me, it was breakcore since it's basically the same drum roll on repeat for the whole song. Another choice is the app brain.fm. It costs money though. Source: 5 months ago
  • What non-medication treatment/habit have you introduced that has helped?
Quality noise-cancelling headphones and a lifetime subscription to brain.fm - it's like a magic switch that channels me straight into focus mode. Source: 5 months ago
