I think https://vespa.ai/ has the right approach in this space by focusing on being hybrid - vectors alone aren't great for production use cases, it's the combining of vectors+text that lets you use ranking to get meaningful result. When it comes to search I cannot disagree more. https://vespa.ai is a purpose built search engine. If you start bolting search onto your database, your relevance will be terrible, you'll be rewriting a lot of table stakes tools/features from scratch, and your technical debt will skyrocket. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

DuckDuckGo is really good when it comes to privacy, but just as bad as google with showing information. Even though it doesn't tell you most of the top results on DuckDuckGo are ads, they paid to be the top results. It also tends to filter out non politically correct information. Yippy.com was a great alternative to the mainstream search engines, it reminded me of an improved altavista from back in the day. But yippy.com now redirects to DDG, and I can't find any word as to why. The "Try YIPPY Search" link on yippyinc.com also gets redirected. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation due to increased demand. Back to Qwant I suppose. Source: about 3 years ago
