The iPhone keyboard was definitely better than any other full qwerty smartphone keyboard of its time back then, but it felt so wrong to throw out the Baby with the Bath water. A whole generation had learned the T9 solution (not talking about the older multi tap). More people than ever had actually switched to something else than qwerty, and loved it.
