I personally prefer Treemily family tree builder. It's free and very easy to use as you basically select a template and fill in all the family members' data. Or you can just import your family tree from a GEDCOM file. I used it to make a family tree as a gift for my grandma and she loved it! If you want a good free software I'd recommend familyecho.com - you can import/export family trees and I also think there's a share function if you and your friends want? It does also calculate the closest relation between two people automatically.
